An incident can simply be described as an unwanted event. It can be anything from a completed data breach to an email with malicious code, an employee who leaked classified information or someone who forgot a piece of paper with a password on the desk.

The purpose of the "Incident Response Policy" is to specify clear roles, responsibilities and measures in the event of an incident, to reduce possible damages and to ensure compliance with GDPR, other legislation and the organization's certifications if any.
